No energy.
No time.
Get more done.

Micro-Doses and Zigzags is a short, illustrated eBook with a system for getting the important things done first, and then more. Not the life you'd have with a free month and a full night's sleep.

  • Why what worked at 30 stops working at 40, and what works instead
  • The real reason you procrastinate (it's not laziness, and it's not a diagnosis)
  • 3 ways to get more done when you can't add a single hour to your day
  • A 5-minute version of every habit, so one bad day never breaks the chain

Cover of Micro-Doses and Zigzags by Anna Bright
you can read it in micro-doses too
If this is your week...

You're not lazy. You're trying to carry the whole mountain at once.

Work, kids, aging parents, a loan, a body that needs more care than it used to. And somewhere under all of it, the things you actually want. See how many of these sound like you.

Illustration: a woman trying to lift an enormous pile of rocks
"The day is over. Again."

You were busy from 7 a.m. until midnight, and the one thing you really wanted to do still didn't happen. Tomorrow looks exactly the same. Groundhog Day.

"What used to work just... stopped."

At 30 you could get up at 5, run after work and learn French on top. Now even a good reason to start lasts about three days.

"I sleep more and still wake up tired."

Coffee carries you until 11. After that you're running on willpower you don't really have anymore.

"Everyone else seems to manage."

Their homes, their bodies, their side projects. And you can't even get the laundry out of the washing machine.

"Starting Monday. For real this time."

A new plan, six new habits, a burst of energy. By Thursday it's gone, and you feel worse than before you started.

"My own goals always come last."

Your dream isn't dead. It just keeps getting moved to "someday" and "when things calm down". They never calm down.

"Good enough" is everywhere now.

Health, looks, money, career. Nothing is collapsing. It's all just quietly sliding downhill, a little more every year.

"It's been hanging over me for months."

The checkup. The paperwork. The closet. The course you paid for. Each one is small. Together they weigh a ton.

Nodded at three or more? This book was written for you.
Not for 25-year-olds with free evenings. For you.

(Although if you're 25, it's hugely useful for you too, and it will change your life right now. The earlier you start, the better: you'll procrastinate far less and move forward in your projects and every area of your life: Health, Family, Relationships, Work, Finances, Learning and more.)

What's really going on

It's not a character flaw. It's Age Inertia plus pressure.

For years I've worked closely with people, most of them between 30 and 50. Jobs, kids, loans, parents who need them. Definitely not lazy. And almost every one of them asks me the same question: "Why can everyone else make it all work, and I can't?"

Comic: there's a big illusion that everyone somehow gets everything done. Nobody gets everything done.
Here's the big secret
STOP TRYING TO DO EVERYTHING. START DOING WHAT MATTERS.

Nobody gets literally everything done. The person you envy isn't doing half the things you do; they just developed different skills. The people who move forward aren't the ones who do it all. They get the main things done first, every day, and then add more. That's exactly what this eBook teaches you to do.

Reason 1 · Age Inertia

Your fuel changes after 35. Nobody warns you.

This is my name for something I've watched in hundreds of people and in myself:

  • 30You can go hard for as long as you want. Easy. Normal.
  • 35You can still do it, but only if something really motivates you.
  • 40The motivation lasts three days. Or doesn't show up at all.
  • 45Everything is "fine as it is". Changes? Forget it. At least for now.

It's not a catastrophe. It's ordinary. But it means the old "push harder" levers are gone, and you need new ones.

Reason 2 · Pressure

Every time you procrastinate, something is pressing on you.

This is the most important idea in the book. It's not laziness. It's pressure, and it comes from everywhere:

lack of sleepa task too big to see the edges ofdecisions you haven't madefearperfectionismguiltdeadlinesnot knowing howtrying to do EVERYTHING

And the more pressure a task creates, the harder your brain works to avoid it. That's just how the brain works.

Pressure
→
Procrastination
→
Make the portion smaller
→
The pressure drops
→
The task gets done

Smaller pressure = easier action. Remember this loop.

"Piling more pressure on yourself when you need less is like trying to put out a fire with more fire and expecting it to go out."From Chapter 2, "Pressure Causes Procrastination"

What you've probably tried

Why the usual advice keeps failing overloaded people

Most productivity advice quietly assumes you have spare hours, spare energy and nobody depending on you. If that were true, you wouldn't need advice.

The advice
What actually happens
"Find more motivation"
After 35, motivation shows up rarely and leaves fast. You need something that works on the days you have none.
"Start fresh on Monday" or "on January 1"
Six habits at once is enormous pressure. You hold on for two or three days, then crash. And every crash teaches your brain that trying to change hurts. That's worse than no result at all.
"Wake up at 5 a.m. and do an hour of routine"
Written for people with spare hours. Cutting sleep drains the exact brain resource you need just to start anything.
"Buy one more course"
Every day, more courses come out on one narrow topic than you could finish in a lifetime. Knowledge isn't your bottleneck. Movement is.
"Wait until things calm down"
They don't. I didn't write my own book for a year and a half because I was "about to clear everything else out of the way."
"All or nothing"
Zero adds up to weeks and months of zero. 10% adds up to results. Even 3% keeps the chain alive.
Illustration: a woman tied down like Gulliver by work, kids, calls and paperwork

We're all a bit like Gulliver, pinned down by a hundred little stakes: work, kids, calls, paperwork. If you want to add something to that life, you have exactly two moves. Make room for it, or make it smaller. This book teaches you to do both, on purpose.

The system

Three pillars for people with no spare hours

I came up with all of this when I couldn't figure out what you're supposed to do when you have almost no energy, no time at all, and still want so many things. None of it comes from smart books. I use it in my own life every single day.

Illustration: Zigzags, turning some burners down so others can burn bright
01

Zigzags

Turn a few burners down on the "stove of your life" and turn one up, hard. A day, a week or a month of real depth for the big, new, scary thing that will never happen in 15-minute slots. Then you come back and clear the loose ends. Calmly. On purpose.

Loose ends are the price of moving forward. The alternative is staying in the same place for years, and that costs much more.

How it looks in real lifeTwo days, 20 solid hours: I built a complex website and applied to an international platform. At 15-30 minutes a day, that would have taken me three months.
Illustration: how I fell in love with small steps
02

Mini- and Micro-Doses

For the things that need consistency: 15 minutes of writing, 10 minutes of exercise, one shelf of the fridge. And when even "mini" makes you freeze, you consciously go micro. Five minutes. One step. You can always make the dose smaller.

The important nuance: a small dose means a small amount. Not low intensity, and not an invisible result.

The simple mathStudy AI for 15 minutes a day, and in six months you have 2,700 minutes. That's 45 hours you would otherwise have spent "meaning to start".
Illustration: the big strategic chain, seven steps
03

Long-Term Planning Chains

For the goals you simply can't reach from where you are right now. You don't have the money, the time or the skills yet. So you build resources in one link and invest them in the next one. Time, energy, money, skills, connections.

Now I'm doing THIS, SO THAT next I can do THIS, SO THAT after that I can do THIS.
If you can't quit your jobThis quarter, a course that qualifies you for 20% more pay. Next quarter, an internship. Then "find a new job". Then rest and rebuild your energy. All of it alongside your main job.

Most of the time it looks like this:
a Zigzag every now and then, with regular Mini-Doses in between.

Plus the support tools that make it all hold

Magic Pauses

The breaks you need anyway, each with one tiny useful task. Home, beauty and health stay in order "by themselves".

Minimum Base, and MB1 inside MB1

What you do even on your worst day. Your protection against "all or nothing".

"Has energy been allocated?"

One question that saves hours of fighting yourself over which task to start.

The 20% inside the 20%

A nested Pareto technique for the areas that just won't move.

Locomotive Goals

The one change that pulls five others along with it. What should you launch earlier?

What it looks like in real life

50 course videos in one Sunday. A better body with no gym.

The eBook is built on real examples from my own life, from big career pushes to the small stuff that hangs over you for months. No theory, no perfect people.

50 course videos in one Sunday

For three years I dreamed about working with international projects, and it just wasn't happening. Video courses in another language used to take me six months to a year, with maybe a 1% chance of finishing. One big Zigzag, some transcription and AI later, all 50 videos were done in a single day, as text.

Before, this would have stayed "later" forever.

A month in Thailand with no gym

No mat, no workout clothes. My only rule: 1-3 exercises every day. Some days just one. I came home, looked in my usual mirror, and my body hadn't just stayed the same. It had gotten better.

And the small stuff that hangs over you for months

The checkup, the paperwork, the closet you keep closing the door on. In the eBook I show how I finally clear these in 5-minute doses between other things, one shelf, one step, one break at a time. No deadline, no inner supervisor, no "do it all at once". Take the pressure away, and only the task is left.

2-3 pages a day × 4 months
250 pages

That's a perfectly solid book. Written in small doses.

15 minutes a day × 6 months
45 hours

Of a new skill you would otherwise still be "about to start".

"I finished Anna's book "Micro-Doses and Zigzags". At first I thought I already knew all of this, since I've been reading Anna for a long time. But I love rereading her, so I picked up the book.

It was a real pleasure to read: interesting, and an easy style. It turned out I did know about mini- and micro-doses, I just wasn't using them everywhere. And Zigzags I wasn't using at all.

I started applying it before I even finished the book. The result: in one day I cleared loose ends I hadn't been able to face, got a whole pile of things done, and it all felt easy. My head is full of plans. The things I was afraid to approach now feel doable. In short, I'm delighted with the book! Anna, thank you for changing our lives!

P.S. This review was written using the doses principle :))"

"Anna, good afternoon! I want to thank you for the book about Zigzags. It's really great! Everything is structured, clear, to the point, and your head just clears up.

This year I finished working with a psychologist: I found inner support and grew up. And then the question came up: where do I go from here, what do I actually want, and how do I set goals and plan? Your practices are exactly what I needed. I've signed up for your "Optimization" course, I'm looking forward to it, and I've already started the first lesson. Thank you!"

Anna asked in her channel whether anyone had already read the book.

"Finished it yesterday, haven't managed to apply it yet :) Once again I thought you're some kind of superhuman :))) I mean, it all looks like a robot: 5 minutes on this, 5 minutes on that, consistently, and so on. Although I understand it's all built the right way and feels great in the end, but still :))"

My answerFrom the outside it looks like a robot. From the inside it's the opposite: you stop forcing yourself and stop "starting over on Monday". Five minutes is simply the size of a step you can't talk yourself out of.

Hi, I'm Anna Bright

For more than 20 years I've been figuring out how people can live with more energy, more joy and less chaos, even in the trenches of real life. I've worked with over 3,000 clients.

And I'm not writing this from some calm, perfectly organized life. I can forget what I was about to do a second ago. I've left laundry in the washing machine for two days. I have a son, a lot of work and dozens of conversations a day. By my mid-40s, Age Inertia hit me too.

So I built these techniques for myself, tested them a thousand times, and then started teaching them. More about me and my story

Questions people ask

Before you decide

I barely have time to breathe. When am I supposed to read a book?

That's exactly why it's short. Most people finish it in one evening. Or read it the way the book teaches: one chapter per break, in micro-doses. The illustrations mean you can get the key idea of a chapter in seconds.

I've read productivity books before. How is this different?

Most of them assume you can add time: get up earlier, block out two hours, build ten habits. This one starts from the opposite point: you can't add time, you're tired, and your old motivation levers stopped working. Zigzags with planned loose ends, the MB1 inside MB1, the 20% inside the 20% and Long-Term Planning Chains are Anna's own concepts, built and tested on overloaded people.

Isn't "take small steps" just an old cliche?

Small steps alone won't get you into something big and new. That's why the book pairs them with Zigzags: deep, deliberate pushes for the things that need momentum. And even the small steps here aren't "weak": a small dose means a small amount, not low intensity or no visible result.

I'm not 35-45. Will it still work for me?

Yes. Age Inertia is one of the reasons people get stuck, but the system is for anyone who is overloaded and wants more energy, more motivation and more movement toward their goals, at any age.

Is this book only for women?

No. Overload doesn't care about gender. Anna uses a lot of examples from her own life, but the techniques work the same for a career change, a side project, the gym, a health checkup or the paperwork you've been avoiding.

I think I might have ADHD. Is this for me?

The book is careful here. ADHD is a real condition, and only a professional can diagnose it. At the same time, many "signs" people find online are also what chronic overload, stress and lack of sleep look like. The book doesn't diagnose or treat anything. It gives practical ways to work with attention and energy, and it doesn't replace a specialist.

Is this a paper book? Which formats do I get?

It's an eBook, digital only, no shipping. You get all four formats: PDF (any phone, tablet or computer), EPUB (Apple Books and most reading apps), MOBI (Kindle) and FB2 (popular e-readers). Use whichever is most convenient.

What happens after I pay?

You get the download link right on the page, and it is also sent automatically to your email within 5-10 minutes. Open the eBook on any device and start with Part I tonight. At the end, the 6 assignments help you plan your first Zigzag and your first Micro-Dose. If the link doesn't arrive, write to info@annabright.info.

One last question

What have you been putting off for a long time?

You don't need more energy to start it. You need a smaller first step and a system that fits the life you actually have. Start today. With a Micro-Dose.
